The Band Alliance's Stand Against HB 4218

"The supporters of the bill claim that the fees collected will go to a fund that will be used by the members of OPM, AMP and Filscap. In other words, if you are not a member of any of these organizations, you will not benefit at all from this national law. Aren’t national laws crafted to benefit the most number of Filipino citizens not just a select few?

I enjoin the membership of The Band Alliance to oppose House Bill 4218. There are other more benign ways to develop the OPM industry without putting at risk the rest of the music industry who are far greater in number and whose economic and social contributions are far more significant.

I also invite our brothers and sisters in the profession belonging to OPM, AMP and Filscap to work with The Band Alliance in crafting a single but comprehensive piece of legislation where all of us in the music industry will benefit from and finally usher in the new age of Philippine pop music. Our vision: “The Philippine Pop Music Development Act of 2014”.
